The Graduate School Language & Literature Munich at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) offers a structured PhD programme designed for outstanding young researchers in linguistics, literature, language education, and cultural studies/cultural history. There are no tuition fees, but students must pay a semester contribution (basic fee 85 EUR plus the Deutschlandticket). Living costs in Munich are estimated at 1,000–1,200 EUR per month. Funding opportunities such as PhD positions, LMU Travel Grant, and LMU Completion Grant are available from time to time.

Applicants must have an excellent degree in a relevant field and demonstrate proficiency in at least two, preferably three, European languages, including German.
