About this position

The Chair of Agrimechatronics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is seeking a highly motivated doctoral student to join its research team as a Research Assistant. This PhD position is embedded within an internationally oriented group focused on advancing intelligent machines for agriculture, with a particular emphasis on agricultural vehicles, robotics, automation, and mechatronic systems.

The successful candidate will participate in both teaching and research activities. The core research project centers on improving object recognition in challenging, dusty agricultural environments by leveraging computer vision techniques and hyperspectral cameras. Additional responsibilities include assisting with project applications and contributing to the ongoing development of the Chair's research agenda.

Research themes at the Chair of Agrimechatronics include tractor and implement automation, communication technologies for vehicles, navigation and guidance systems, positioning, model-based control, drives and power systems, and robotic implements. The interdisciplinary and practical nature of the work provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth, allowing the candidate to develop expertise in both theoretical and applied aspects of agricultural technology and research.

The position offers compensation in line with the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Lands (TV-L), ensuring competitive remuneration. TUM is committed to diversity and inclusion, giving preference to disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications and actively encouraging applications from women.

Eligibility requirements include a Master's degree in engineering (e.g., Computer Science) with above-average academic results, strong skills in computer vision, machine learning, or hyperspectral cameras, and professional proficiency in English. The position is open from April 1, 2026, and applications must be submitted by January 31, 2026.

To apply, candidates should send their application in English by email to [email protected], including a cover letter, CV, degree certificates and transcripts, and a copy of their Master's thesis or a seminar paper. Please review the data protection information provided by TUM before submitting your application.
