PhD Research Position in Energy Economics and Public Economics at University of Bern University of Bern in Switzerland

The KPM Center for Public Management at the University of Bern, Switzerland, is offering a fully funded PhD research position in Energy Economics and Public Economics as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network ENERPOL. The position focuses on the economic analysis of energy prices, electricity markets, and household energy expenditure inequality, utilizing applied microeconometrics and administrative data. The doctoral candidate will join an international training network, participate in summer schools, and benefit from both academic and industry secondments.

The research project addresses key challenges in the green energy transition, such as volatile energy prices, inequality, and household risk exposure. The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research, complete a PhD dissertation, present at international conferences, and contribute to teaching and dissemination activities. The project emphasizes advanced methods to compute household energy-expenditure inequality and assess the effects of exposure to high and volatile electricity prices.

Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Economics or a related field, with strong training in microeconomics, public economics, and applied econometrics. Proficiency in English is required, and German is preferred. Candidates must not have resided or worked in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to the start date, in accordance with MSCA mobility rules. The position offers a gross annual salary of approximately CHF 69,000 for 36 months, with additional benefits including international training and secondments.
