Description

This PhD scholarship at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) offers an exciting opportunity to develop innovative methods and tools for the economic impact assessment of newly emerging technologies, including generative AI (genAI), energy, and carbon technologies. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment within the Faculty of Business and Law, engaging with leading researchers and several research centres and groups at QUT. The scholarship provides a generous stipend of $37,010 per annum (tax-exempt and indexed annually) for up to three years, along with a tuition fee offset/sponsorship covering the first four full-time equivalent years of doctoral studies. This support enables the recipient to focus on their research and professional development. Applicants should have a strong background in impact assessment fields such as cost and benefit analysis, techno-economic analysis, barriers to innovation adoption, advanced economics analysis, and quantitative analysis. A solid foundation in microeconomics is essential, and industry experience in business and economic consulting is preferred. Candidates must meet QUT's Doctor of Philosophy entry requirements, including English language proficiency, and enroll as a full-time, internal student (unless otherwise approved). The successful applicant must commence their degree by 1 August 2026. Supervision will be provided by Professor Viet Ngu Hoang, an expert in the field, offering guidance and support throughout the research journey. The project aims to address the challenges of assessing the economic impact of rapidly evolving technologies, contributing valuable insights to academia, industry, and policy-making. To apply, candidates should email Professor Hoang with details of their academic and research background, motivation for pursuing research in this area, a full CV, and a one-page statement highlighting their strengths and best work. If supported, applicants will then submit an expression of interest (EOI) for the PhD program, nominating Professor Hoang as their proposed supervisor and referencing the scholarship link in the financial details section. The application deadline is 15 February 2026. For more information and to access the application portal, visit the official scholarship page .
