About this position
Scholarships are available for PhD candidates to contribute to the development of advanced hydrogen storage systems in a multidisciplinary research team. With the rapid increase in energy demand and potential drastic effects of climate change there is an urgent need for developing effective energy storage systems to finally enable the large-scale deployment of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind) and the implementation of clean transport systems.
The project: The aim of this project is to develop a novel class of hydrogen materials that would allow the design of modern hydrogen storage systems and fuel cells capable of meeting an ever-increasing demand in clean and efficient energy technologies. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a highly topical area and within a world-class research team. The study is to be conducted at the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney (top 18 in the world).
The candidates: Highly motivated applicants awarded a first class BSc Honours degree with a high grade > 85% (or equivalent - Master degree with high grade > 85%) in chemistry, materials science, polymer chemistry and/or preparation of inorganic nanoparticles, or a related fields including chemical and mechanical engineering. Consideration will also be given to applicants who do not have an Honours degree but have done research for at least 1 year as part of their studies. The scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents. International students with a Master degree from a reputable university (ranked in the top 400 in the world) are also encouraged to apply.
