PhD Scholarship in Sustainable Urban Logistics Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium

The Faculty of Social Sciences & Solvay Business School at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), through its Department of Business Technology and Operations and the House of Sustainable Transitions (HOST) research group, invites applications for a PhD position in sustainable urban logistics. The successful candidate will join the interdisciplinary Mobilise team, contributing to a four-year FWO-funded project focused on mapping and innovatively analyzing transport demand in Brussels.

This doctoral project offers the opportunity to develop expertise across transport and logistics, sustainability, economics, and statistics. The role involves independent data collection, conducting surveys, and organizing workshops with companies, policymakers, and academics. The candidate will also participate in international conferences and learn to publish and communicate research findings for maximum societal and economic impact.

The Mobilise team and HOST provide a collaborative and supportive research environment, with opportunities for professional development, training, and team activities. The position is based at the Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene).

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field and demonstrate strong research skills and an interest in sustainable urban logistics. The project is fully funded for four years by the FWO, providing a doctoral grant. Proficiency in English is required, and knowledge of Dutch or French is an asset.
