PhD student (f/m/d) in Molecular Cell Biology/Virology in Göttingen and Bordeaux

part time, for a period of 3 years

The lab of Ralph Kehlenbach is seeking a motivated PhD-student. We are an international and diverse team of scientists working on the nucleocytoplasmic transport machinery and proteins of the inner nuclear membrane. In this project, we will address adenoviral genome import, together with our long-term collaborator, Dr. Harald Wodrich from the University of Bordeaux, France (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34757845/ and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32161167/ for recent publications (or search for Wodrich and Kehlenbach in PubMed)). The position (salary according to TV-L) is funded for (initially) three years.

Your tasks

  • the project will focus on adenoviral genome import into the nucleus
  • you will use virus-infected cells to analyze nucleocytoplasmic transport
  • you will perform fluorescence microscopy of fixed cells and living cells
  • you will express proteins in bacteria for interaction studies
  • part of the project will be performed in our partner lab in Bordeaux, France

Your qualifications

  • Master in life science (e.g.biochemistry, biology, molecular medicine, virology)
  • background in molecular biology techniques, microscopy and/or cell culture
  • high intrinsic motivation
  • english as work language
  • willingness to travel to Bordeaux, France, several times
