About this position
The Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Medical University of Vienna invites applications for a PhD student position in the Pharmacometrics and Precision Dosing team. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in advancing preclinical pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic (PK–PD) modelling in oncology, with a focus on translational research and dose prediction for clinical studies. The project centers on developing and applying population pharmacokinetic and tumour-growth inhibition models to characterize exposure-response relationships of oncology compounds, supporting model-based translation between animal and human studies.
The research will be conducted in close collaboration with the Preclinical PKPD Modelling Group at Boehringer Ingelheim (Vienna), providing valuable experience in both academic and industry settings. The successful candidate will contribute to scientific publications, present findings at international conferences, and participate in seminars and journal clubs. The position offers an international, structured doctoral program with comprehensive scientific training and development opportunities, as well as mentorship and networking within a multidisciplinary environment.
Applicants should hold a university or master’s degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacometrics, (bio)medical sciences, mathematics, (bio)statistics, or a closely related field. Prior hands-on experience in PK/PD modelling and statistical data analysis, proficiency with software such as NONMEM and R, and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate scientific curiosity, independence, and excellent English communication skills, and be effective team players.
The initial contract is for one year (30 hours/week), with the possibility of extension up to three years. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, copy of Master’s thesis and relevant publications, diplomas and transcripts, and contact details for 2-3 references (including at least one reference letter). All documents must be merged into a single PDF and submitted in English to Ass.Prof. Dr. Iris Minichmayr at [email protected]. The application deadline is July 28, 2026, but applications will be reviewed continuously and the position may be filled earlier if a suitable candidate is identified. The anticipated start date is Summer 2026 or as agreed.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a new, highly motivated research group led by a supervisor with extensive international research experience, and to gain exposure to both academic and industry-driven drug development in oncology.
