About this position

The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Genome Science, in collaboration with the Research Training Group GönomiX, is seeking highly motivated PhD candidates for cutting-edge research in genomics. This interdisciplinary program, based at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, Germany, offers world-class supervision, advanced facilities, and a collaborative research environment. Projects span experimental genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and theoretical disciplines such as bioinformatics and computational biology. GönomiX focuses on the evolution of gene regulatory networks and Wnt pathway functions in emerging model organisms, utilizing 'omics technologies and bioinformatics. Students will have the opportunity to pioneer novel bioinformatics tools or develop innovative methods to study gene function in various model systems.

The program provides structured training, regular scientific exchange through retreats, colloquia, and tailored workshops, and excellent career development and global networking opportunities. Applicants must hold an outstanding Master's degree in experimental life sciences, computational/mathematical/biophysical sciences, or a related field, and demonstrate academic excellence, creativity, motivation, teamwork skills, and proficiency in English. The position is full-time, limited to three years with a possibility of extension, and offers an estimated gross annual salary of €57,708. The Max Planck Society, University of Göttingen, and University Medical Center are committed to diversity and encourage applications from individuals with disabilities and all backgrounds.

Applications must be submitted online by January 14, 2026. Required documents include a CV, academic records, and contact information for two referees. Applicants may select up to five potential projects from either program. For more information, visit imprs-gs.uni-goettingen.de or uni-goettingen.de.
