PhD Student position in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium

The Laboratory of Mammalian Development and Cell Biology at the Université catholique de Louvain, led by Prof. Dr. Yves Jossin, is offering a PhD student position in Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology. The research group is based at the Institute of Neuroscience (IoNS) of the University of Louvain Medical School, located on the Brussels campus. The lab investigates the development of the mammalian cerebral cortex, which is essential for cognition, sensory and motor functions, and emotional regulation. The research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of neural cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation, aiming to advance knowledge of brain formation and develop strategies to treat various brain disorders.

The team employs an interdisciplinary approach, utilizing protein interaction studies, in vivo alteration of signaling pathways, cell culture (including cell lines and primary cultures), luciferase assays, histology, organotypic tissue culture assays, RT-qPCR, and profiling of translating mRNAs. The research environment is dynamic and collaborative, offering opportunities to work with cutting-edge techniques in neurodevelopmental biology.

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with required knowledge in molecular and cellular biology. Experience in neurodevelopment is advantageous but not mandatory. Effective communication skills in English or French are necessary. The position is scheduled to start on January 1st, 2027.

Funding for the position is provided through a 4-year FRIA fellowship from the Belgian FNRS organization. The fellowship selection process includes a 10-minute in-person presentation and a 10-minute defense of the project before a jury, held in Brussels during October-November. Salary is determined according to standard Belgian regulations.
