About this position
The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) is offering a PhD student position in the field of multilayered 2D cuprate artificial heterostructures. IFW Dresden is a leading research institute dedicated to the development of new and sustainable materials and technologies, employing over 500 staff from more than 40 countries. The successful candidate will join the Institute of Metallic Materials and work within the Superpuddles lab, collaborating closely with the QTLab at the University of Naples Federico II.
This project aims to advance the experimental realization and control of complex van der Waals materials, specifically focusing on multilayered twisted cuprate architectures. The research will explore the fundamentals of these materials, targeting novel functionalities in superconducting quantum technologies. The student will be involved in state-of-the-art device fabrication, quantum transport measurements, and non-linear photonics experiments at low temperatures. The work environment is highly interdisciplinary, combining expertise in materials science, quantum circuits, and experimental physics.
The position offers employment under the TV-L collective agreement (EG 13, 65%), with an initial one-year contract and the possibility of a two-year extension following a successful mid-term evaluation. Additional benefits include a modern workplace at the Technische Universität Dresden campus, flexible and family-friendly working hours, 30 days of vacation, a company pension scheme, job ticket benefits, special annual payments, health management programs, discounted sports offers, and access to further training and language courses. The anticipated start date is January or February 2026.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in physics, engineering, or quantum science and technology, and demonstrate motivation, ambition, teamwork, and strong English communication skills. The institute encourages applications from women and individuals with disabilities. To apply, submit a motivation letter, CV, Master's certificate, and training certificates as a single PDF file by December 31, 2025, to [email protected], referencing 004-26-2107. For further information, contact Prof. Dr. Nicola Poccia or Dr. Golam Haider. More details can be found at the provided application link.
