Loughborough University's School of Design and Creative Arts is offering a fully funded PhD studentship focused on transdisciplinary design and creative arts, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and regenerative thinking. This PhD opportunity invites candidates to explore how design and creative arts can move beyond minimizing harm to actively restoring ecological and social systems. Key questions involve catalyzing behavioral change, systems-level transformation, and integrating indigenous and local knowledge into sustainable approaches. Projects may span biomimicry, eco-social innovation, participatory design, human factors, creative methods, and policy advocacy, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across environmental science, economics, and activism.

The studentship provides a tax-free stipend of £20,780 per annum for three years, plus university tuition fees. Funding is awarded competitively and subject to final university approval. Applicants must hold or expect to achieve at least a high 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent international qualification) in a relevant subject; a relevant Masters degree or employment experience is advantageous. English language proficiency is required as per university standards.
