About this position

The Institute of Human Genetics at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań is offering a postdoctoral (adjunct) position in the Department of Cancer Genetics (DCG). This opportunity is ideal for researchers with a PhD in medical, biological, chemical, or pharmaceutical sciences who are passionate about cancer genetics and molecular biology. The DCG conducts interdisciplinary research focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of head and neck cancers, as well as hematological malignancies. The department utilizes advanced molecular biology techniques, including next-generation sequencing, ONT, spatial transcriptomics, microarrays, CRISPR/Cas9 editing, and functional assays, to investigate genetic and epigenetic changes in cancer cells that drive disease initiation, progression, and treatment response.

Research at DCG is performed in close collaboration with international teams and otolaryngology clinicians, providing opportunities for research mobility and clinical translation. The main focus is on identifying diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, such as gene expression and microRNA changes, and exploring the role of viruses and environmental factors in cancer pathogenesis. The department also aims to develop minimally invasive genetic tests, including liquid biopsy approaches, to enable earlier detection, risk assessment, and personalized therapy for patients based on their molecular profiles.

Key responsibilities for the post-doc include conducting research in head and neck cancer, maintaining experimental documentation, preparing grant applications, presenting research results in reports, scientific papers, and conferences, supervising junior researchers and students, updating theoretical and practical knowledge, ensuring proper use of research equipment, participating in scientific meetings, and complying with internal regulations and safety protocols. Additional tasks may be assigned by the department head or institute management.

Applicants must demonstrate scientific achievements through publications, fluency in English, motivation for scientific work, problem-solving skills, and teamwork ability. Required application documents include an employment application, academic diplomas, CV, publication list, patent information, research project details, citation metrics, independent researcher opinion, summary of scientific interests and achievements, consent for personal data processing, and statements regarding competition regulations and employment location. The planned remuneration is approximately 6,900 PLN gross per month under a full-time employment contract.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 10, 2026. Results will be announced within 30 days after the deadline, and selected candidates will be invited for an interview. Individual feedback will be provided to all applicants, and the winner will be announced on the institute's website. The planned employment start date is June 1, 2026. For further information, contact Professor Maciej Giefing at [email protected]. Candidates who are not selected have the right to appeal within 7 days of receiving feedback.

For detailed application instructions and required forms, visit the competition portal: https://bip.igcz.poznan.pl/konkurs/.
