About this position

The Institute of Human Genetics at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher (adjunct) to join the Department of Cancer Genetics (DCG). This position offers the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of head and neck cancers, as well as hematological malignancies.

The Department of Cancer Genetics utilizes advanced molecular biology techniques, including next-generation sequencing, Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT), spatial transcriptomics, microarrays, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and a variety of functional assays. The research aims to identify genomic and epigenomic changes in cancer cells that drive disease initiation, progression, and treatment response. The department collaborates closely with international research teams and otolaryngology clinicians, providing opportunities for research mobility and clinical translation.

Key research areas include the analysis of genetic and epigenetic abnormalities in laryngeal and salivary gland tumors, the search for diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers (such as gene expression and microRNA changes), and the investigation of viral and environmental factors in cancer pathogenesis. The team is also developing minimally invasive genetic tests, such as liquid biopsies, to enable earlier detection, risk stratification, and personalized therapy for patients.

The successful candidate will conduct research, maintain experimental documentation, prepare grant applications, present results in reports and scientific papers, supervise junior researchers and students, and participate in conferences and meetings. The position offers a full-time employment contract with a planned gross salary of approximately 6,900 PLN per month.

Applicants must hold a PhD in medical, biological, chemical, or pharmaceutical sciences, demonstrate expertise in molecular biology, have a record of scientific publications, and possess fluency in English. Strong motivation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are essential. The application package should include a CV, diplomas, publication list, citation metrics, research project summaries, an independent researcher's opinion, and several required statements and consents. Detailed instructions and forms are available via the provided application link.

The application deadline is May 10, 2026. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, and all applicants will receive individual feedback. The position is planned to start from June 1, 2026. For further information, contact Professor Maciej Giefing at [email protected].
