About this position

Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a post-doctoral assistant position within the Department of Morphology, Imaging, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation and Nutrition at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This role is designed for candidates with a strong background in veterinary medicine and veterinary sciences, particularly those with expertise in veterinary morphology and medical imaging of domestic animals.

The successful candidate will dedicate at least 70% of their assignment to academic research, contributing to ongoing projects in veterinary medical imaging, morphology, orthopedics, rehabilitation, and nutrition. Additional responsibilities include assisting in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, counseling Master’s students during their exercises, work placements, and dissertations, as well as providing guidance to doctoral students. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage in both research and education, fostering the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Applicants must hold a Master in Veterinary Medicine and a doctoral degree in Veterinary Sciences, with all degree requirements completed by the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have demonstrated research experience in veterinary morphology and medical imaging, and have distinguished themselves as promising researchers during their doctoral studies. A strong interest in student coaching and relevant scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals are highly valued.

The appointment is temporary for three years, with the possibility of extension for another three years upon favorable evaluation. Remuneration is determined according to salary scale AAP5, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package including training and education opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and more. The earliest start date is July 1, 2026.

To apply, candidates must submit their application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of June 16, 2026. Required documents include a CV (with scientific publications), cover letter, diploma transcript, and certificate of equivalence if applicable. For foreign diplomas not in Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation must be provided. The university encourages applications from all backgrounds, maintaining an equal opportunities and diversity policy.
