About this position
Ghent University, one of Belgium's leading research institutions, is offering a post-doctoral assistant position in the Department of Plants and Crops, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. This two-year, full-time appointment focuses on academic research in plant pathology, with at least 70% of the assignment dedicated to advancing knowledge in this field. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching activities at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, supervise students in exercises, internships, theses, and support PhD candidates. A key aspect of the role is facilitating the merging of two research groups specializing in plant pathology, fostering collaboration and innovation.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Bioscience Engineering or an equivalent qualification, with the degree requirement fulfilled by the start date. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should have demonstrated research experience in plant pathology, a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and active participation in relevant conferences and workshops is considered an asset. Experience in student supervision and a service-oriented mindset are essential. Proficiency in Dutch at C1 level is mandatory for this position.
The appointment is temporary and cannot be renewed. Remuneration is determined according to salary scale AAP5, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package including 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and access to a wide range of training and education opportunities. The position is based at Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 33, Ghent, Belgium, and will commence no earlier than 1 October 2026.
