The School of Engineering and Architecture at University College Cork is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the 'Sustainable Futures' project, led by Professor Marguerite Nyhan. This full-time, temporary position focuses on advancing sustainability and climate action education through curriculum development and the creation of educational resources. The role also involves evaluating how cultural and creative interventions can engage diverse audiences in new responses to climate change and sustainability challenges.
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, with demonstrated research experience in the social aspects of climate change and sustainability. The position requires technical competence, accomplishment, and the ability to work collaboratively within a project team. Essential skills include strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal abilities, as well as experience in report writing, peer-reviewed publishing, and thematic analyses using NVIVO software.
The successful candidate will conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision of Professor Nyhan, participate in professional development and training, and gain experience in grant writing and dissemination of research results. Responsibilities also include supporting postgraduate students, contributing to research grant proposals, and assisting in the financial management of research projects. Familiarity with the publication process and acquisition of generic and transferable skills such as project management and postgraduate mentoring are expected.
Applicants must be proficient in English and may be required to undergo Garda vetting or international police clearance as part of the selection process. The position is not funded through the EU Research Framework Programme and is not related to a staff position within a research infrastructure.
The application deadline is 10 April 2026, with the offer starting on 3 June 2026. Interested candidates should apply via the University College Cork website and ensure all eligibility requirements are met. For further information, contact Professor Marguerite Nyhan at [email protected].
