About this position
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is offering up to three postdoctoral positions in physical oceanography at the Edmond J. Safra Campus, Jerusalem. The Institute of Earth Sciences provides a vibrant research environment with state-of-the-art laboratory and computational facilities, supporting advanced research in geophysical fluid dynamics, air-sea interaction, oceanic and atmospheric circulation, climate change, and related fields. The available postdoc positions focus on cutting-edge topics such as air-sea interaction (using both numerical modelling and observational approaches), the global overturning circulation (numerical modelling), and small-scale turbulence and submesoscale circulation (observation and instrumentation-focused).
Successful candidates will join the Physical Oceanography in Multiple Scales (POMS) Lab led by Dr. Aviv Solodoch, a Senior Lecturer specializing in oceanic processes across scales, including boundary current instability, vortex dynamics, density currents, and air-sea interactions. The lab employs both numerical modeling and marine observations, utilizing innovative instrumentation to study physical processes in the oceans.
The position offers a collaborative and diverse research community, with opportunities to contribute to climate science and oceanography. Funding is available, with annual salaries ranging from 21,600 to 32,450 USD depending on qualifications. Applicants should have a strong background in physical oceanography or related fields such as atmospheric dynamics, applied mathematics, engineering, fluid mechanics, or physics.
Experience in numerical modelling and observational techniques is an advantage, and strong analytical skills are required. The Hebrew University values diversity and inclusion, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds. To apply, candidates must submit a letter of motivation, CV (including publications), and a copy of their academic degree(s) as three separate PDFs via the provided application link by December 16, 2025.
The university is a global leader in research and innovation, located in the culturally rich city of Jerusalem, offering an inspiring environment for academic and personal growth.
