About this position

Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a postdoc in Agentic Systems Biology for Biomanufacturing at the Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology, Department of Life Sciences, in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project sits at the intersection of systems biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, and computer science. The research aims to develop intelligent computational systems that combine constraint-based metabolic modeling, resource allocation modeling, omics data analysis, automated literature mining, and large language model (LLM) agents to support microbial cell factory design and biomanufacturing.

Research directions include extending mechanistic models of metabolism, building agentic pipelines for omics analysis, creating retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems over scientific literature and knowledge bases, and designing benchmarking frameworks for evaluating predictions and agent-generated hypotheses. The role also includes publishing methods and results, presenting at conferences, and supervising students to some extent.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, computer science, or an equivalent field by the time of appointment. Required experience includes metabolic modeling tools such as COBRApy, COBRA Toolbox, or RAVEN; machine learning for biological/scientific data; strong Python software development; omics workflows; and excellent English communication skills. Helpful extras include experience with enzyme-constrained or proteome-constrained models, LLM APIs and frameworks, agentic systems, RAG, vector databases, knowledge graphs, multi-omics integration, and open-source research software.

The appointment is a temporary full-time postdoc for two years with a possible one-year extension. The position requires physical presence throughout the employment. Chalmers offers employee benefits and a dynamic research environment in Gothenburg.

Deadline: 16 May 2026. Applications must be submitted in English via the online application form as PDF files. A complete CV and a personal letter are required; incomplete applications and email submissions will not be considered.
