About this position

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is offering a two-year postdoctoral position in AI methods for financial economics at the Department of Finance. This position is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and is part of Professor Niels Joachim Gormsen’s research program on the cost of capital. The successful candidate will collaborate with Professor Gormsen (CBS) and Professor Kilian Huber (University of Chicago) to develop and implement advanced AI and large language model (LLM) techniques for extracting economic information from corporate documents, earnings calls, and other text sources. The research aims to deepen our understanding of how firms perceive and use their cost of capital, influencing investment decisions and the broader economy.

The postdoc will be fully devoted to research, with no teaching obligations, and will have the opportunity to pursue independent research projects alongside the main project. The position includes a travel budget, encouraging participation in international conferences and research visits. This role is ideal for candidates aiming for an academic career in finance or economics, or for those interested in the financial industry.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in computer science, economics, finance, or a related field. Essential qualifications include strong expertise in AI and LLMs for data extraction, proficiency with AI assistants or independent LLM implementation, advanced programming skills, and experience with large datasets. Excellent English proficiency (written and spoken) is required, and regular presence at the Department of Finance is expected. Desirable qualifications include experience with natural language processing, text mining, a background in financial economics or macroeconomics, and a strong research record.

Appointment and salary are in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation. The position is non-tenured and runs for two years, with an ideal start date of August 1, 2026 (negotiable). CBS values diversity and encourages all qualified candidates to apply. Application materials must be submitted via the electronic recruitment system by May 11, 2026, and should include a summary of strengths, a complete publication list, up to five prioritized publications, documentation of research, transcripts, and a full CV.

For further information, contact Center Coordinator Ida Listh at [email protected]. More details about the research program can be found at costofcapital.org and the DNRF project page. Department and institutional information is available at www.cbs.dk.
