About this position

Postdoc opportunity in Anthropology of Politics and Governance at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle (Saale), Germany.

The Department ‘Anthropology of Politics and Governance’ invites applications from outstanding scholars with an innovative project aligned to its research profile. The department works on political arrangements, governance initiatives, social movements, and contemporary transformations, with thematic interests including anthropology of ecology or climate, anthropology of the body or health, and anthropology of digital technology or AI.

Eligibility: Applicants should hold a PhD in social and cultural anthropology or a related discipline. The dissertation must be based on qualitative or mixed methods and address contemporary social issues. The successful candidate will carry out primary research, aim for impactful publications, participate in departmental activities, and contribute to outreach.

Funding and terms: This is a full-time postdoctoral contract for three years, with the possibility of renewal. Salary is according to TVöD level E13. Research and international conference travel funds are available.
