About this position
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg invites applications for a postdoctoral position in arithmetic and algebraic geometry. The research focus is on invariants that capture geometric and arithmetic complexity, with topics including Arakelov geometry, birational and Calabi–Yau geometry, analytic torsion, and related height-theoretic or intersection-theoretic ideas. The project aims to understand the behavior of such invariants under deformation and transformation, and to develop new tools bridging geometric, analytic, and arithmetic perspectives.
The postdoc will join a vibrant and international research community with active groups in algebraic geometry, number theory, and several complex variables. The Division of Algebra and Geometry conducts research in algebraic geometry, complex geometry, number theory, mathematical physics, and mathematics of AI. The environment offers regular seminars, collaborative opportunities, and a wide global network. The project is carried out in collaboration with Prof. Dennis Eriksson and his research group.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in mathematics or a closely related field, with documented research strengths in arithmetic and algebraic geometry. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years and requires physical presence throughout the entire period. A valid residence permit is required by the start date. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment, generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, healthcare, and Swedish language courses for non-native speakers. The university is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with initiatives such as the GENIE project for gender equality and excellence.
To apply, prepare your application in English as PDF files, including a comprehensive CV, list of publications, PhD thesis with transcripts, and a personal letter outlining your previous research and future goals. Submit your application via the online application form by 23 February 2026. Incomplete applications and applications sent by email will not be considered. For questions, contact Daniel Persson ([email protected]) or Dennis Eriksson ([email protected]).
Chalmers University of Technology is a leading institution in technology and natural sciences, fostering innovation and collaboration for a sustainable world. The university values scientific excellence, diversity, and a supportive academic environment.
