New postdoctoral opening at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) for a Postdoc in Atomistic Modelling for Green Steel within the Groeien met Groen Staal (GGS) programme, in close collaboration with Tata Steel Netherlands.

The position is embedded in Team Dey within the Computational Materials Science section at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The research focuses on atomistic modelling and computational materials science for sustainable metallurgy, with particular attention to carburization, wetting behaviour, and graphitization of carbonaceous materials.

The project uses advanced simulation and modelling tools including DFT, MD, ab initio MD, and machine-learning interatomic potentials to study iron–carbon interactions at the electronic and atomic scale. The broader goal is to support the transition toward CO₂-neutral steelmaking through computation-guided materials design.

This opportunity is aimed at candidates with a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field, and strong expertise in atomistic and molecular simulations. An interest in sustainable metallurgy and green steel research is important.

The position is located in Delft, The Netherlands, starts in September 2026 or earlier, and has a duration of 3 years. The application deadline is 7 June 2026.
