About this position

Agroscope is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in bioeconomical modelling of soil compaction in Zurich, Switzerland. The project sits at the intersection of soil science, agricultural economics, environmental science, and computer science/programming, with a strong focus on developing and applying models to evaluate strategies for preventing and mitigating soil compaction.

The successful candidate will compile and synthesize data on the agronomic and economic effects of soil compaction, build a bioeconomic modelling framework, simulate impacts on crop growth and key ecosystem functions, and analyse consequences for farm profitability. The role also includes cost–benefit analysis, interdisciplinary collaboration with Agroscope and industry partner Syngenta, and dissemination through publications and international conferences.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in soil science, agricultural economics, environmental sciences, or a related field; experience with process-based models and programming; knowledge of soil physics, agronomy, and agricultural economics; strong analytical skills; comfort working with uncertain or incomplete data; and ability to collaborate across disciplines. Knowledge of two official Swiss languages plus English is required.
