About this position

The University of Luxembourg, a modern and international research university, is offering a postdoctoral position in the field of cryptography for finance and privacy. The successful candidate will join the CryptoLux team, led by Professor Alex Biryukov, at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). The research project, entitled "Advanced Cryptography for Finance and Privacy (CryptoFin)", is funded by the Luxembourgish Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR) through the CORE program.

This position focuses on cutting-edge research in applied and symmetric cryptography, cryptofinance, cryptoeconomics, blockchains, and online anonymity and privacy. The postdoc will conduct, publish, and present research results at international conferences, provide guidance to two Ph.D. students, and collaborate with academic and industrial partners to attract further funding. The SnT centre is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach and strong ties to industry, offering a vibrant research environment with high-quality equipment and infrastructure.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline, and have a competitive research record in applied cryptography or information security, including at least one publication in a top-tier IT security or cryptography conference. Strong mathematical and algorithmic skills are essential, with experience in economics or finance considered an asset. Proficiency in programming and scripting languages, commitment, teamwork, critical thinking, and fluent English communication skills are required.

The position is a fixed-term contract for 18 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 83,099 (full time). The University of Luxembourg offers a multicultural and inclusive environment, with staff from over 90 countries and close connections to the business world and European institutions. The campus is located in Kirchberg, providing excellent infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration with innovative companies, financial institutions, and non-academic partners.

To apply, candidates must submit their application online via the University of Luxembourg HR system, including a cover letter, CV, details of open-source contributions or research competitions, and contact information for three referees. Applications by email will not be considered, and early submission is encouraged as applications are reviewed upon receipt. The university is committed to equality and diversity, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds.
