About this position
Join the Division of Materials and Manufacture at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of electrochemical synthesis of 2D materials for advanced gas sensing applications. This two-year project focuses on developing innovative electrochemical exfoliation methods to produce high-quality, large-area molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) nanosheets. The research aims to tailor the thickness, structure, and surface properties of MoS₂ for integration into cutting-edge sensing technologies, including sub-ppb level NO₂ detection.
The division offers a collaborative and dynamic environment, covering the entire value chain from materials design and processing to advanced characterization and machining. You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and work closely with leading experts in materials science, electrochemistry, and engineering. The project involves in-situ characterization techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, as well as advanced material analysis using TEM, XRD, XPS, and AFM. You will optimize material properties for sensing applications and may supervise master’s and/or PhD students, with opportunities to engage in teaching at the undergraduate or master’s level.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in materials science, electrochemistry, inorganic chemistry, or a related field by the time of employment. Strong communication skills in English and experience in electrochemical synthesis of 2D materials are required. Additional experience in thin film fabrication and gas sensing is highly valued. The position is full-time, based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and includes all employee benefits offered by Chalmers University of Technology. A valid residence permit is required for non-EU applicants.
Chalmers University of Technology is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and offers a supportive environment for international researchers, including Swedish language courses. The application deadline is July 19, 2026. For further information, contact Dr. Zhenyuan Xia ([email protected]) or Prof. Timur Shegai ([email protected]). Apply online using the official application link and ensure all required documents are submitted before the deadline.
