The Quantum Photonics Group at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in experimental quantum photonics. This position is part of the Quantum Optoelectronics group, led by Associate Professor Leonardo Midolo, and the Center for Hybrid Quantum Networks (Hy-Q), headed by Professor Anders S. Sørensen. The group focuses on quantum mechanical effects of light in photonic integrated circuits, developing innovative devices for generating and manipulating photons at the nanoscale. Research areas include nanomechanical devices for controlling single photons, telecom-wavelength quantum emitters, and interfacing single photons with mechanical quantum memories.
The successful candidate will drive research on quantum nanophotonics, supervise PhD students, and contribute to collaborative efforts across the Quantum Optoelectronics Group and Hy-Q. The group offers a supportive, ambitious, and international environment with access to state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities, advanced optical laboratories, and strong theoretical collaborations. The center comprises approximately 50 researchers, fostering close daily interactions both socially and scientifically.
Applicants must have a PhD in physics, nanophotonics, quantum optics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Essential qualifications include a strong experimental background in nanophotonics or integrated photonics, quantum optics and single-photon experiments, nanofabrication of III–V or related semiconductor devices, or cavity optomechanics/nanomechanics. Candidates should demonstrate independent research ability, publication record, excellent communication skills, and motivation to supervise students. Preferred qualifications include experience with low-temperature optical setups, cleanroom nanofabrication, and knowledge of quantum information science or hybrid quantum systems.
The position is full-time for two years, with terms of employment and salary according to Danish academic staff agreements. Salary supplements may be negotiated.
