About this position

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Farm Labor Markets and Environmental Economics. This opportunity is based at the Luxembourg Centre for Socio-Environmental Systems (LCSES), a research hub dedicated to advancing sustainability and equity in global and local contexts. The Economics of Sustainability (EoS) Group at LCSES focuses on multi-scale economic analysis and modelling, particularly the interactions between agricultural input/output markets and environmental change.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team investigating how European food producers adapt to labor scarcity, heat stress, and evolving food systems. The research aims to inform policy and strengthen sustainable food production and rural community resilience. Key responsibilities include mapping the data landscape on farm workers in Europe, developing a comprehensive database of farm worker typologies and labor market outcomes, and applying advanced modelling techniques for fine-scale analysis of agricultural systems. The postdoc will also support the development of a Farm Labor module within a multi-scale modelling framework, such as SIMPLE-G, to evaluate labor market interactions with climate change, dietary shifts, and policy initiatives.

Applicants should hold a PhD in agricultural, environmental, or applied/environmental economics or a closely related discipline. Required skills include experience with integrated assessment models, coding languages, independent research, publication leadership, fine-scale modelling, and handling large-scale datasets. Previous work on policy evaluation related to biodiversity or agricultural sustainability, and experience in GAMS or GEMPACK, are advantageous. Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Luxembourgish, French, or German is an asset.

The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, inclusive, and international research environment, with strong links to professional sectors and the Luxembourg labor market. The position is a fixed-term contract for 36 months, full-time (40 hours/week), with a yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176. The planned start date is 1 September 2026, and the role is based at the Belval Campus.

To apply, submit your application online through the HR system, including a CV, cover letter, PhD diploma, transcript, list of publications, names and contact information of three referees, and two papers in PDF. Early applications are encouraged as review is ongoing. Applications by email will not be considered. The University promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
