About this position

Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana, USA) is advertising a postdoctoral position co-mentored by Dr. Laura Murray-Kolb and Assistant Professor Gregory Henderson to develop an emerging research area at the interface of iron metabolism and lipid metabolism.

The postdoc will split time between the Murray-Kolb lab and the Henderson lab. The project includes ongoing human trials examining relationships between iron status, cognitive functioning, mood, and quality of life, as well as mechanistic work on free fatty acid (FFA) transport, albumin, lipoproteins, and transferrin. The role also includes studies in mouse adipose tissue explants and cultured cells, with opportunities to learn human clinical-trial design, biomarker selection, kinetic assays, and molecular techniques.

This is a strong fit for candidates interested in nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, iron transport, fatty acid metabolism, and translational research across human and animal models. The postdoc will also receive training in research, teaching, outreach, communication, leadership, and project management, including lab meetings, journal club, conference presentations, and support for a postdoctoral fellowship application.

Funding: The appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire. No stipend amount is listed in the post.

Eligibility: PhD in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Physiology, or a related field by the expected start date. Applicants should be able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Preferred skills include excellent academic writing, strong organization, problem-solving, attention to detail, and statistical proficiency (SAS and R preferred).

Application: Submit a cover letter, CV, names and contact information for 3 references, and a writing sample via the Purdue careers portal. The priority deadline is 2026-05-27, but applications will be considered until the position is filled. The ideal start date is 2026-07-01, though other dates may be considered.
