The successful candidate will join the Nozière group in the Department of Chemistry and contribute to the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced project EPHEMERAL. The research focuses on developing and applying proton transfer mass spectrometry (PTr-MS) and Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry to characterize and optimize instruments for radical detection in laboratory and environmental settings.
Oxygenated organic radicals play crucial roles in various chemical systems, including biological metabolism, polymerisation, combustion, and atmospheric processes. However, their detection remains challenging due to limited available techniques. This project aims to address these challenges by innovating mass spectrometric methods, providing new insights into radical chemistry and its environmental impact.
Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field, with eligibility met by the time of employment. Essential qualifications include documented experimental experience with gas flow systems and standalone mass spectrometry, as well as excellent English communication skills. Preferred candidates will have recent doctoral degrees (within three years), experience in instrument development, chemical ionization, PTr-MS, Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry, and knowledge of atmospheric chemistry or gas-phase kinetics. Personal skills such as motivation, problem-solving, attention to detail, and teamwork are highly valued, along with awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues.
