About this position
The Division of Nanobiotechnology at SciLifeLab, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, invites applications for a postdoctoral position focused on microphysiological systems for tumor biology. The successful candidate will join Professor Anna Herland's research group and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across KTH, Karolinska Institutet, SciLifeLab, and Karolinska Hospital. The project aims to develop and validate advanced models that emulate cancer microenvironments, specifically targeting tumor-stroma interactions and vascularization of tumor models. These efforts are designed to uncover self-reinforcing ligand secretion patterns and enable improved studies of immunotherapies and combinatorial therapies, supported by in silico digital-twin-like models and multimodal in vitro and in vivo approaches.
Key responsibilities include designing, fabricating, and validating microphysiological systems and organ-on-chip platforms, coordinating activities between project partners, collaborating with computational scientists and cancer biologists, and supervising research engineers or master's students involved in the projects. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in bioengineering, biotechnology, microtechnology, or related fields, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. Preferred qualifications include experience in microsystem and microfluidic design and fabrication, cancer biology projects, teaching and supervision, excellent collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with a specific focus on gender equality, is also required. Proficiency in English or Swedish is necessary, and translations of documents must be provided if originals are not in these languages.
The position is full-time, temporary (up to two years), and offers a monthly salary. The start date is 2026-08-15 or as agreed.
