About this position
Join the Photonics Laboratory at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, Chalmers University of Technology, as a postdoctoral fellow in novel approaches for compact wavelength-tunable lasers. This research group is renowned for its expertise in optoelectronic devices, ultrafast optics, and fiber optical communication, tackling challenges from long-haul transmission to datacenter interconnects. The laboratory offers a collaborative environment where PhD students, postdocs, and senior scientists work together to advance photonics, supported by a world-class cleanroom infrastructure for device fabrication.
The research project centers on compact silicon-nitride chip-based optical parametric amplifiers, exploring their applications in super-sensitive receivers for deep-space communication and as gain media in widely wavelength-tunable parametric oscillators. These oscillators have numerous uses, including optical coherence tomography. The project also aims to launch a spin-off company, providing opportunities for entrepreneurial engagement.
As a postdoc, you will evaluate optical devices fabricated in the cleanroom and investigate their performance in various experimental setups. You will supervise master’s and PhD students and may participate in teaching at the undergraduate or master’s level. The position is designed to be meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree, completed by the time of employment decision. Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. Experience in experimental photonics research, optical communications, and numerical modeling is essential. Teaching experience and demonstrated potential in research and education are expected. Preferred qualifications include a doctoral degree obtained within the last three years, a research profile in optical parametric amplifiers and/or tunable lasers, cleanroom experience with optical device fabrication, and entrepreneurial experience.
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with generous employee benefits, including parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for international staff.
To apply, submit your application in English as PDF files, including a comprehensive CV, publication list, teaching experience, and a personal letter outlining your research background and future goals. Applications must be complete and submitted via the online application form; incomplete applications or those sent by email will not be considered. References will be requested after the interview. The deadline for applications is February 26, 2026.
