About this position

Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in optical quantum networks. This opportunity is situated within the Division of Communications, Antennas, and Optical Networks at the Department of Electrical Engineering, a leading research environment focused on communication infrastructures and advanced optical networking.

The project aims to develop and enhance quantum networks, with a particular emphasis on deploying state-of-the-art quantum network testbeds and advancing switching techniques for quantum applications. The successful candidate will design, establish, and manage scalable quantum networking testbeds, focusing on optical-domain switching and routing protocols that support high-fidelity, low-loss quantum information exchange. Responsibilities include resource management for efficient entanglement distribution, conducting proof-of-concept experiments, and developing novel protocols for quantum networking. Results are expected to be presented at major journals and conferences.

The Optical Networks (ON) group at Chalmers is renowned for research in network architecture, optimization, control, management, and the integration of fiber and wireless networks. The group values sustainability, reliability, and security in network design, and fosters a collaborative, international research environment.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field, with specialization in quantum networks, optical networks, or photonics, awarded within the last three years. Essential qualifications include expertise in optical switching and routing, quantum communication principles, hands-on experience with optical network simulation and testbed development, and proficiency in managing optical paths and resource allocation. A strong publication record, excellent problem-solving skills, and fluency in English are required. Preferred qualifications include experience in entanglement distribution, error correction, and interdisciplinary optical/quantum integration projects.

Funding & Employment: The position is a full-time, temporary postdoctoral contract for two years, with salary and benefits according to Swedish university standards. Chalmers offers a supportive and inspiring work environment, with a commitment to equality and diversity, including initiatives like the GENIE project for gender equality.

Application Process: Applications must be submitted online in English and include a CV (with publications and teaching experience), a personal letter (1-3 pages), and attested copies of education, grades, and certificates. Incomplete or emailed applications will not be considered. The application deadline is 20 June 2026.

For further information, contact Dr. Rui Lin ([email protected]) or Prof. Paolo Monti ([email protected]) at the Optical Networks Unit.

Chalmers University of Technology is a world-class institution with a strong tradition in engineering, science, and innovation, dedicated to advancing knowledge and technical solutions for a sustainable future.
