About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Quantum-Classical Modeling of Multiphase Flows, based in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in Gothenburg, Sweden. The research group at the division of Chemistry and Biochemistry is dedicated to advancing multiphase flow and separation science, aiming to accelerate industrial innovation and the implementation of net-zero technologies.
The project focuses on developing hybrid quantum–classical approaches for modeling multiphase flows governed by complex, nonlinear dynamics across multiple scales. The successful candidate will explore how quantum algorithms and techniques can complement and augment classical computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. This interdisciplinary work lies at the intersection of multiphase flow physics, numerical modeling, and quantum computing, and offers opportunities to collaborate across fields such as quantum computing and computer science.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, or a closely related field by the time of employment decision. Essential qualifications include a strong background in computational modeling and numerical methods, experience with multiphase flow modeling (e.g., TFM, CFD-DEM, DNS, LBM), solid programming skills, experience in Linux/HPC environments, and the ability to conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Experience with quantum computing concepts, quantum algorithms, or quantum-inspired methods is highly desirable and will strengthen the application.
The position is a full-time, temporary employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment period, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment, employee benefits, and support for settling in Sweden, including Swedish language courses. The university is committed to gender balance and equality, actively working with initiatives such as the GENIE project.
To apply, submit your application in English as PDF files (maximum 40 MB each) via the online application form. Required documents include a comprehensive CV with a complete list of publications and a personal letter outlining your motivation, relevant research experience, and future goals. Incomplete applications and those sent by email will not be considered. Contact details for references will be requested after the interview. The application deadline is 28 February 2026.
