Postdoc opening in Quantum Technology at Ruhr University Bochum

The Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at Ruhr University Bochum is advertising a fixed-term, full-time postdoc position in the AG Spectroscopy of Condensed Matter / Molecular Beam Epitaxy section. The role is part of the BMBF-funded flagship project QR.N, which aims to build the hardware backbone for Germany’s quantum communication network and develop semiconductor components for future quantum repeater nodes.

This opportunity is especially relevant for researchers in physics, materials science, solid-state physics, semiconductor technology, quantum technology, quantum communication, semiconductor nanostructures, Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the synthesis and optimization of high-purity semiconductor structures, the development of epitaxial methods, hardware upgrades, and technical support for the lab and consortium partners.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in physics, materials science, or a related field; strong MBE and UHV expertise; ability to design custom hardware solutions; experience with experimental setup development and data analysis; strong English communication skills; and willingness to work in an international environment where German and English are used.

Funding and conditions: the position is salaried under TV-L, with E13 TV-L mentioned if requirements are met. It is a fixed-term appointment until 31.12.2027, full-time (39.83 hours/week), and there is no teaching obligation if the post is funded by third-party funds.
