About this position
The German Institute of Human Nutrition (DIfE), a member of the Leibniz Association, is renowned for its experimental and clinical research in nutrition and health. The institute’s mission is to unravel the molecular basis of nutrition-dependent diseases and develop innovative strategies for their treatment and prevention. DIfE is a partner of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD), and the Department of Molecular Epidemiology (MEP) is seeking a Postdoctoral researcher to join its dynamic team.
This postdoc position is embedded in DZD-funded research focusing on metabolic flexibility—the body’s ability to switch between carbohydrate and fat metabolism—and its impact on the progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes, as well as transitions between low- and high-risk subtypes. The research utilizes dynamic measures of glucose and lipid regulation, including oral glucose tolerance tests, mixed-meal tests, and continuous glucose monitoring, aiming to identify early markers predictive of T2D onset and assess their modifiability through nutrition. Analyses will leverage data from the EPIC-DZD substudy of the EPIC-Potsdam cohort and the NAKO Health Study.
Applicants should have a PhD in biomedical science or a related discipline, with expertise in epidemiological methods and public health/epidemiology training. Proficiency in statistical software (R or SAS) is essential, and research experience in type 2 diabetes, cardiometabolic traits, or nutrition is highly valued. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, able to work independently, and eager to collaborate with national and international research groups. Excellent English communication skills, strong computer skills, and a solid publication record are required.
The institute offers a vibrant and interactive research environment, state-of-the-art equipment, and close collaboration with project partners. The position provides remuneration according to TV-L, level 13, plus annual special payment and company pension scheme. Additional benefits include family-friendly working conditions (certificate “audit berufundfamilie”), support for mobility with a jobticket for public transport, free parking, 30 days of vacation, and participation in a corporate benefits program. The position is available for three years.
DIfE is committed to equal opportunities and actively promotes the employment of people with severe disabilities, giving them preferential consideration if equally qualified. To apply, submit your cover letter, CV, copies of degrees/certificates, and references as a single PDF file with reference number 2026_W05_AP by May 29th, 2026, via email to [email protected]. For further information, contact Prof. Dr. Matthias Schulze at [email protected].
Join DIfE’s Department of Molecular Epidemiology and contribute to cutting-edge research on nutrition, metabolic health, and diabetes prevention in a collaborative and supportive environment.
