About this position

The Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL) in Amsterdam invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the Short Wavelength Light Sources for EUV Metrology group. This 2-year postdoc opportunity focuses on developing cutting-edge ultrafast femtosecond-to-attosecond spectroscopy techniques in the EUV/soft-X-ray spectral range, utilizing a laboratory-based high-harmonic generation (HHG) setup. The research aims to advance HHG-based spectroscopic and interferometric methods for probing interface and layer properties in multilayer solids and liquids, as well as to design approaches for actively tuning the EUV spectrum based on interlayer geometry and composition.

The successful candidate will investigate the dynamical evolution at interfaces, bridging attosecond science with industrial applications, and will be responsible for designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with researchers at ARCNL and within the broader ultrafast science community. The role also includes publishing results in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international conferences.

Applicants must hold (or be about to receive) a PhD in ultrafast light-matter interaction and have a strong background in ultrafast laser optics, optics engineering, and condensed matter physics. Required experience includes high-harmonic generation in various media, ultrafast lasers and optics, condensed matter physics, attosecond and femtosecond science, EUV and X-ray spectroscopy and interferometry, and vacuum instrumentation. Proficiency in programming and large data handling (Python, MATLAB) and excellent English communication skills are essential. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with ML-based phase-retrieval algorithms and experience with facility-based experimental setups such as free-electron lasers or synchrotrons.

ARCNL is a leading research institute located at Amsterdam Science Park, focusing on fundamental research in physics and chemistry relevant to nanolithography and the semiconductor industry, with strong ties to industrial partner ASML. The institute offers a vibrant, international research environment with approximately 100 staff, including 65 researchers from around the world.

The position is a full-time appointment (40 hours/week) for 2 years, with a competitive salary (scale 10, CAO-OI) and a comprehensive benefits package. ARCNL provides support for housing and visa applications for foreign postdocs, as well as compensation for transport and furnishing expenses.

To apply, submit your application online via the provided link. For further information, contact Dr. Angana Mondal at [email protected]. ARCNL is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
