About this position
Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers in Luxembourg for industrially oriented R&D on smart tires, combining materials science, chemistry, electrochemistry, electrical engineering, and physics.
1) Postdoc in Li-ion microbatteries: This project focuses on the fabrication and characterization of solid-state Li-ion microbatteries, their integration into microdevices, and their coupling with energy harvesters for tire applications. The work includes materials synthesis, interface control, microfabrication, structural/chemical characterization, and electrochemical performance testing. Experience with cleanroom microfabrication, SEM, XPS, DRX, PVD, and/or ALD is highly relevant.
2) Postdoc in energy harvesting in tires: This project develops piezoelectric energy harvesters based on ceramics for tire systems. The role includes geometry optimization with COMSOL, signal conditioning electronics, demonstrator development, and integration/testing in real tires. Knowledge of ferroelectric and piezoelectric characterization, electronics, and circuit simulation (e.g. LTSpice) is valuable.
The positions are part of the LIST–Goodyear partnership and are based in Belval/Belvaux, Luxembourg. Both roles are two-year fixed-term postdocs and require a PhD plus strong English skills. The post emphasizes collaboration with an industrial partner, autonomy, initiative, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Funding and benefits: The post does not state a stipend amount, but LIST offers a full-time fixed-term contract, 32 days of paid annual leave, 11 public holidays, a 13-month salary, statutory health insurance, flexible working hours, home working policy, and lunch vouchers.
How to apply: Apply online via the LIST HR system. Prepare a motivation letter, scientific CV, publication list, and two references. Applications are reviewed continuously until the positions are filled.
