About this position

ETH Zurich is advertising a Lead Postdoc Opportunity in Resilient Satellite Navigation, GNSS, Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), and AI within the Chair of Space Geodesy, led by Prof. Benedikt Soja. The project focuses on building navigation systems that remain robust under jamming and spoofing, using multi-sensor fusion, factor graph optimization (FGO), and machine learning / AI methods.

The research mission includes developing next-generation navigation software for challenging environments, real-time detection and mitigation of interference, and integration of low-cost to high-grade GNSS hardware and simulators such as Spirent. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in geodesy, geomatics, aerospace engineering, signal processing, computer science, and electrical engineering topics related to resilient navigation and satellite systems.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD in Geodesy, Geomatics, Aerospace Engineering, Signal Processing, or a related field. Strong GNSS data processing skills and programming ability in Python and C++ are required. Experience with FGO, sensor fusion, or AI/ML is considered an advantage, and fluency in English is expected.

Funding and contract: the role is a postdoc or established researcher (Oberassistent) position with an initial 2-year contract and the possibility of extension. ETH Zurich indicates competitive salary and benefits, along with access to world-leading Swiss GNSS infrastructure, flexible working hours, and home office options.

Application: submit the application via the ETH Zurich online portal. Prepare a motivation letter (1 page), CV and publication list, transcripts and certificates, and contact details for two referees. For scientific questions, contact Prof. Benedikt Soja at [email protected].
