About this position

The University of Graz invites applications for a PostDoc position in the field of sociology, located within the Department of Sociology. This temporary position, starting April 1, 2026 and lasting until December 31, 2030, offers an annual gross salary of at least €70,200.20 for full-time employment, with the possibility of overpayment based on qualifications and experience. The role is designed for candidates with a strong background in sociological theory, history of sociology, and cultural and art sociology.

Responsibilities include conducting independent research, publishing scholarly work, and teaching courses at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. The teaching focus is on sociological theory, history of sociology, social science methodology, specialized sociologies, research trainings, and research laboratories. The successful candidate will also participate in projects of the Archive for the History of Sociology in Austria (AGSÖ), apply for and manage research projects, contribute to university self-administration, supervise students and interns, and engage in science-to-public activities.

Applicants must hold a Doctoral/PhD degree in sociology or a related field, demonstrate relevant publications and research experience, and possess teaching experience. Experience with archival research, project application, and project implementation is required. A very good command of written and spoken German and English is essential, along with a proven interest in the history of sociology or the social sciences. Candidates should be willing to undergo further training in archive law and exhibit strong social communication and organisational skills, as well as an independent working style.
