About this position
This postdoctoral position at Radboud University focuses on the systems biology of malaria gametocytes, specifically targeting the sexual stages of malaria parasites to contribute to transmission-blocking strategies. The role is embedded within the Faculty of Science and the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS-Science), a leading research institute dedicated to deciphering molecular mechanisms of disease. The successful candidate will join a collaborative ZonMW open competition project, working alongside another postdoctoral fellow in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment.
The research aims to dissect gametocyte development in vivax-type malaria parasites using state-of-the-art omics, gene editing, and imaging technologies. The project leverages single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, epigenomics, and proteomics to unravel complex cellular differentiation and unique parasite biology. The candidate will be expected to apply and integrate various omics approaches, develop novel research ideas, and pursue independent projects aligned with the central theme.
Applicants must hold a PhD in molecular or systems biology, parasitology, or a related field. Essential qualifications include strong analytical skills, experience with omics data generation and bioinformatic analysis, excellent English communication and writing skills, independence, and collaborative ability. Experience with malaria biology, single-cell RNA-sequencing, epigenomics, proteomics, data integration, or modelling is advantageous.
The position offers a temporary contract of 1.5 years with the possibility of extension. Salary ranges from €3,546 to €5,538 per month, complemented by an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, extra days off, and flexible annual leave options (30 or 41 days). Additional benefits include flexible working hours, reimbursement for sports membership, a 34% discount on sports and cultural activities, a pension plan, and access to training and development schemes. The vibrant RIMLS-Science environment comprises about 60 researchers and provides access to wet lab, omics, and computational facilities, supporting both fundamental and applied research in medical biology and molecular life sciences.
Radboud University is committed to groundbreaking research, high-quality education, and fostering an inclusive community. The Faculty of Science is internationally oriented, with staff from over 70 countries, and offers a welcoming environment for personal and professional development. The application deadline is 5 April 2026, with interviews scheduled for 10 April 2026 and a preferred start date of 1 September 2026. Applications should be submitted online, addressed to Dr Richard Bartfai, and include all required documents as specified in the application form.
For further information, contact Dr Richard Bartfai at [email protected]. The university encourages internal and external candidates and values diversity and inclusion in its recruitment process.
