About this position

InnoRenew CoE and the University of Primorska are recruiting for two open postdoctoral positions for Beamline Scientists at the new High-Brilliance SAXS (HB-SAXS) beamline at Elettra 2.0 in Trieste, Italy.

This opportunity is centered on synchrotron science, SAXS, beamline support, and research development. The selected researchers will support experiments before and during beamtime shifts, assist with data treatment and post-processing, and help with proposal writing. They will also collaborate closely with the SAXS Beamline group and contribute to research activities linked to Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.

The post is formally classified as a Research Fellow at the InnoRenew CoE, Andrej Marušič Institute. The beamline is described as a high-brilliance SAXS facility with applications in advanced X-ray methods such as pump-probe experiments, 3D SAXS tensor tomography, X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy, ptychography, and coherent SAXS imaging.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in chemistry or a related field; at least 2 years of synchrotron research experience; strong English communication skills; ability to develop research ideas and prepare proposals; and fulfilment of University of Primorska requirements for Research Fellow status. Desirable experience includes wood and renewable materials, interdisciplinary research, and university teaching.

Funding and employment: time-unlimited position with a 4-month trial period, competitive salary, and possible performance-based raises. Two scientists will be hired.

Application deadline: 30 June 2026. Applicants should email a CV, one-page motivation letter, and publication list in PDF format to [email protected] with the subject line specified in the post.

Contact: For research-topic questions, contact prof. dr. Andreja Kutnar at [email protected].
