About this position

KU Leuven is offering several postdoctoral positions in pure mathematics, funded by the long-term Methusalem program. The positions are part of the collaborative research project "Classification, symmetries and singularities at the frontiers of algebra, analysis and geometry," which brings together expertise from multiple research groups to tackle challenging problems in algebra, analysis, and geometry. The research environment is highly stimulating, with regular colloquia, seminars, and advanced courses, and offers broad exposure to diverse mathematical topics and collaboration opportunities. The postdoctoral researchers will develop their own research programs in pure mathematics, with particular interest in candidates who propose interdisciplinary projects bridging two or more of the following areas: algebraic and arithmetic geometry, random matrices and complex analysis, differential geometry, functional analysis and operator algebras, group theory, and Lie algebras.

Postdocs will also have opportunities to guide PhD students and are expected to contribute to the research environment by organizing seminars and advanced courses. Teaching duties are limited. KU Leuven is committed to diversity and encourages applications from underrepresented groups.

Applicants must have a PhD in mathematics (or be close to completion, with the degree expected before fall 2026), a strong research record in one of the specified areas, and fluency in English. The fellowship is for three years and includes a competitive salary, funding for conferences and research stays, health insurance, and social benefits for the postdoc and their family. The start date is flexible, preferably before October 2026.

PhD students who will obtain their PhD before fall 2026 are eligible. Candidates should be fluent in English; Dutch is not required.
