Empa, a leading research institution within the ETH Domain in Switzerland, is seeking a PostDoc/Scientist to join its dynamic team working on bitumen chemomechanics. The position focuses on advancing the future of sustainable asphalt pavements through innovative research on binder aging reduction, development of alternative binders, bitumen emulsions, and binder recycling. As part of Empa’s mission to contribute to societal well-being, you will engage in projects that address real-world challenges in road infrastructure and materials science.

Responsibilities include managing research projects, adhering to project plans, collaborating with research partners, engaging with stakeholders, and reporting to funding agencies. The role offers opportunities to participate in international forums and apply for new research grants, fostering both independence and teamwork within an ambitious, goal-oriented group.

Applicants must possess a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, along with strong management and communication skills. Expertise in asphalt binder chemical and mechanical characterization, production process optimization, and scalability considerations is essential. Familiarity with asphalt mechanical performance and pavement design concepts is advantageous. Candidates should be highly motivated, eager to learn, self-driven, and have excellent English communication and writing skills. Knowledge of German is a plus.

Empa provides a multicultural, interdisciplinary environment with outstanding infrastructure and competitive salaries. The position is funded for two years, with the possibility of extension.
