About this position

The Faculty of Physics at the University of Rijeka is offering a postdoctoral assistant position on the project "Membrane-in-the-middle quantum memory for single photons (IP-2024-05-5670)", funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. This full-time, fixed-term role runs until November 30th, 2026, and is based at the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka, Croatia. The research centers on advanced quantum optics topics, including optical cavities, optomechanics, nonlinear optics, single-photon generation, optical parametric oscillators, and spontaneous parametric down-conversion. Experimental work will involve techniques such as optical sideband cooling, cavity alignment, cavity locking, homodyne and heterodyne detection, and working with vacuum and cryogenic systems.

The successful candidate will contribute to both experimental and theoretical aspects of quantum memory for single photons, collaborating within an interdisciplinary team. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in Physics or a closely related field and submit a CV, proof of citizenship, proof of doctoral degree, list of publications, and a motivation letter in English or Croatian. Recognition of foreign educational qualifications is required before employment. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant prior experience and strong interpersonal skills.

The application process follows Croatian labor and higher education regulations, and candidates eligible for preferential treatment under specific Croatian laws should provide the necessary documentation. Applications must be sent via email in PDF format to [email protected] within 30 days of the call announcement.

The Faculty reserves the right to conduct candidate testing and to cancel the call if necessary. Notification of the selection process outcome will be published on the Faculty website and communicated by email. This position provides an opportunity to work on cutting-edge quantum optics research in a supportive academic environment, with funding from the Croatian Science Foundation.
