About this position

This postdoctoral assistant position is offered in the Laboratory of Neurobiology of Psychiatric Disorders at the Maj Institute of Pharmacology, Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow, Poland. The successful candidate will join a research team working on the National Science Centre's OPUS 26 project, which aims to develop pharmacological strategies to alleviate cognitive dysfunctions associated with oncological therapy while enhancing anticancer effects.

The research focuses on the dual challenge of mitigating cognitive impairment caused by cancer treatments such as taxane-based chemotherapy (docetaxel, DOC) and doxorubicin (DOX), and simultaneously improving the cytotoxic impact of these therapies on cancer cells. The project investigates the role of metabotropic glutamate (mGlu) receptors, particularly mGlu1 and mGlu7, which are implicated in cognitive processes and tumor growth. The research involves in vitro studies using cell cultures to assess cancer cell survival, migration, and proliferation, as well as in vivo and biochemical studies in animal models. Key experimental techniques include cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, RT-PCR, and RNA interference.

The position is funded for 24 months (with possible extension) and offers a gross annual salary of PLN 140,000. Applicants must have a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences (or equivalent), significant research experience, a strong publication record, and proficiency in English. The application process requires submission of a cover letter, CV, scientific interests, degree certificates, and other documentation by email.

The position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to translational research at the intersection of neurobiology, oncology, and pharmacology in a leading Polish research institute.
