About this position

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is advertising a Postdoctoral Associate position in the Tarchini Lab focused on hearing and balance. The project investigates the mechanisms underlying auditory and vestibular development and function using advanced mouse genetics.

Research topics include differentiation of hair cells, supporting cells, and their innervating neurons, with emphasis on the cytoskeletal polarization events that shape sensory epithelia. A major goal is to identify protein complexes that organize and elongate the stereociliary bundle, the mechanosensory structure required for detecting sound and head movements. The lab also studies how these proteins support adult hair bundle maintenance, respond to injury, and whether developmental machinery can be reactivated to regenerate stereocilia bundles after damage.

This is a research-intensive postdoctoral opening for candidates with a strong background in developmental cell biology, neuroscience, or related fields. The role requires the ability to independently plan, execute, and analyze a research project, along with strong communication skills. Preferred experience includes fine dissection, inner ear biology, mouse genetics, quantitative live imaging, and inner ear surgery.

Funding is provided as a salaried postdoctoral appointment, with salary levels listed by years of postdoc experience. The post includes a clear application package requirement: a one-page cover letter, CV, and three references. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.

The opportunity is based at The Jackson Laboratory, an independent nonprofit biomedical research institution in the United States with a major focus on genetics and disease research.
