About this position

A full-time postdoctoral associate position is available in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University at Buffalo, in the laboratory of Dr. Yolanda Huang. The lab's research centers on advancing the molecular understanding of the gut microbiota, with a particular focus on microbial functions that enable bacteria to colonize and survive in the gut environment. Projects may include investigating carbon metabolic pathways and the genetic determinants of bacteria-phage interactions in Bacteroidales.

The research utilizes cutting-edge methodologies such as DNA barcoding, short and long read sequencing, and high-throughput functional genomics. The successful candidate will lead research projects, develop new experimental protocols, mentor students, present research outcomes, and contribute to publications.

The lab values mentorship and career development, fostering a supportive environment for all members. Candidates should have a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, and demonstrate research productivity. Preferred expertise includes microbiology of anaerobes and phages, assay development, functional genomics, sequencing data analysis, -omics techniques, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry (HPLC, LC-MS).

Responsibilities include independent experimental work, protocol development, accurate record-keeping, data interpretation, manuscript writing, research proposal assistance, conference presentations, lab member training, and weekly lab maintenance. The position offers a competitive salary ($55,000 - $65,000) and benefits.

The University at Buffalo is a leading public research university and an equal opportunity employer. Applications are accepted until the position is filled. For more information or to apply, visit the provided job portal links.
