About this position

The African Genome Center (AGC) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in Bioinformatics and Microbial Genomics. UM6P is a leading research institution in Africa, committed to innovation and development, and is located in the heart of Benguerir's Green City. The AGC is a state-of-the-art research center focused on Biodiversity Genomics, OMICS and Metabolic Engineering, Genome Editing, and Natural Product Chemistry and Metabolomics. Its mission is to advance genome biology research and training across Morocco and Africa, with a strong emphasis on democratizing genomics research and fostering technology transfer.

This postdoctoral position is part of Professor Vittorio Venturi’s research group, which investigates bacterial cell-cell signaling within plant microbiomes. The successful candidate will analyze genomics and metagenomics data to study signaling systems in plant-associated bacteria and explore the genomic features of beneficial bacterial strains. The research aims to deepen understanding of microbial interactions in plant ecosystems and contribute to sustainable agricultural solutions.

Applicants should have a PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Microbial Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with proven expertise in bacteriology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and soil and rhizosphere microbial genomics. Proficiency in molecular biology laboratory techniques, a strong publication record, and excellent English communication skills are essential. The AGC offers a vibrant, international research environment and opportunities for professional development.

To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, and contact details for three references via the application portal. For more information, visit https://agc.um6p.ma or contact Professor Vittorio Venturi at [email protected]. The application deadline is June 16, 2026.
