About this position

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in System-Level Analysis of Deep-Learning Acceleration, based in the Department of Computer Science in Trondheim, Norway. This position is part of the EU Horizon project CIRES, which aims to advance Europe’s capabilities in semiconductor technologies and intelligent computing systems, supporting the objectives of the EU Chips Act. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, international research environment and collaborate with leading academic and industry partners to develop new technologies for efficient AI systems.

The postdoctoral fellow will focus on creating a European open-source platform for deep-learning acceleration, investigating methods for analyzing deep-learning use cases, and mapping them to the most appropriate accelerator based on performance, power, energy, and area requirements. The role involves close collaboration with international project partners and participation in the Computer Architecture Laboratory (CAL) and Systems Software Group (SSG) at NTNU. Scientific outcomes are expected to be published in top-tier conferences and journals.

Key duties include conducting high-quality research, academic publications, popular science dissemination, reporting to the EU on project progress, participating in international conferences and meetings, mentoring students, and contributing to departmental work such as teaching. The position offers a 3 or 4-year contract, depending on suitability and agreement on departmental contributions.

Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. Candidates in the final phase of their doctorate may apply if they can document thesis submission or confirmed defense date, but must present documentation of the obtained doctorate before starting. Excellent written and oral English language skills are required. Preferred qualifications include first-author publication at a top-tier international venue in computer architecture, hands-on experience with evaluation of computer architectures using prototyping and simulation, familiarity with system software, hardware description languages (Chisel, VHDL, Verilog), and contemporary AI software frameworks (PyTorch, ONNX). Norwegian oral language skills are desirable.

NTNU offers a strong and international professional environment, career guidance, open and inclusive working culture, favorable terms in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, free Norwegian language training at a basic level, and access to employee benefits. The gross annual salary is NOK 633,400 before tax, with a 2% deduction for the pension fund. The city of Trondheim provides a rich cultural scene, excellent welfare services, and opportunities for education and family life.

To apply, submit your application electronically via Jobbnorge.no with CV, diplomas, certificates, motivation letter, thesis, and published works attached. Applications submitted elsewhere will not be considered. Bring certified copies of certificates and diplomas if invited to interview. Ensure your application clearly demonstrates how you meet the selection criteria. The deadline for applications is 20 May 2026.
